School - FAQs
  1. Is tuition assistance available? Yes, we accept McKay Scholarships for students with special needs and Florida Pride Scholarships. Visit their website at www.floridapride.org for more information and to download an application. In addition we provide financial assistance for qualified families.
  2. In addition to academics, what “specials” classes does First Lutheran offer? Students also participate in art, music, choir, computers, PE, and Spanish.
  3. Do I have to be Lutheran to attend First Lutheran School? No, many of our school families are not Lutheran. We do however encourage you to be involved in worship in a Christian church of your choice. We want to partner with you in the Christian education of your children. If you do not have a church home we invite you to worship with us but it is not a requirement of our school families.
  4. How do I enroll in First Lutheran School? Enrollment for the following school year begins in mid February and continues while we have seats available. School Tours are every Thursday so that interested families can come by during school hours and “see us in action”. When you see what a great program we offer you’ll want to fill out an enrollment application and then meet with the principal. After that you will be notified of your acceptance.

  6. What type of testing is done at First Lutheran School? Every spring students in grades 1-8 are assessed using the Stanford Achievement Test. This test helps us compare student performance with students in the same grade across the nation. . We are able to evaluate individual student progress as well class and overall school performance. Every other year students also take the Otis Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) which allows us to compare student ability with performance.
  7. What types of opportunities for parent involvement are there? We love for our parents to be involved! In fact, we think it is so important that parents partner with us and feel a sense of ownership in our school that we have an expectation that families will volunteer 20 hours during the school year. You can help in your child’s classroom with field trips, class parties, projects that you can be worked on at home, and many school wide activities that always need parent help.
  8. Do you have a hot lunch program? Yes, our students have the option of packing their lunch or purchasing a nutritious hot lunch from school. During their lunch period students may also purchase a la carte items and snacks.
